Fun to Boring
Here I am first time
driving on the freeway. I'm nervous at first, I mean it's my first time driving
at 70 mph. After a while though that fear melted away and it was fun driving at
the high speeds. Then a while later it wasn't that exciting anymore and I end
up zoning out on the road. However, after turning on some music and passing a
semi or two it goes through the cycle all over again.
What's the point to this story? Well just like
driving on the freeway, your dreams can go through that same cycle. When I'm
working on a new writing project to get where I wanna go, at first, it’s exciting.
You visualize it all the time, trying to imagine what it will be like when its
finally ready to go out into the world. In fact, the project can be compared to
a child. The day you birth the idea for the project is joyful, you hold your
child imagining all that’s in its future. Children and projects, however,
include the responsibility of nourishing them, teaching them, and letting it
grow. Now this can be tiring.
I can tell you there will be days where you
will not want to work with your dreams. If you’re not careful it could turn
into weeks. But just like a child, it won't grow up into a beautiful and
amazing masterpiece without your hard work and effort. I know it's gonna be
hard believe me. I struggle with this too. You just got to look in the mirror
and say "No. I will nourish her, keep her safe, let her learn, and through
that I will learn to be the person I'm meant to be for her and for me, because she
is my child and I'm the only one who can help her be who
she needs to be as well as to be ready for the world." And I know it's odd that
I'm comparing a child to a dream, but you raise and care for both like a
parent. And have the same defensive instincts for a dream that a parent would
have for their child. You go through the same joy when it flourishes and the
same sadness when it's rejected.
You must be there for it always. It's not
going to succeed without you. Even when it’s boring or hard, you need each other,
because it gives you purpose and you give it life. Never give up on your
dreams, because that feeling you'll get when you see its potential
fulfilled will be worth all that hard work.
